Why the Fool Comes First

If you’ve ever looked at a tarot deck, you might notice something strange: the first card isn’t number one—it’s zero.

The Fool is card 0 in the Major Arcana. He’s not the beginning or the end. He’s the space before the journey starts.

In the image, the Fool stands at the edge of a cliff, looking up, not down. There’s a bag on his shoulder, a flower in his hand, and a little dog at his feet. He’s about to step into the unknown—and he’s not afraid.

So why does the Fool come first?

Because tarot isn’t linear. It’s cyclical. The Fool represents potential, openness, and trust. He’s the part of you that’s willing to begin, even if you don’t know where it’s going.

Every time you draw a card, you’re stepping into that Fool energy. You’re saying: I’m ready to look. I’m ready to listen.

The Fool isn’t foolish. He’s free. He doesn’t carry answers—he carries possibility.

And that’s why he leads the way.
